"You Draw It" Reimagined
Problem Domain
Inspired by The New York Times' iconic "You Draw It" charts, this interactive visualization invites you to predict data trends before revealing the actual values. Originally designed to engage readers in active data interpretation, I've recreated this experience as part of a study on how visual interactivity shapes our understanding and expectations. Try drawing your own guess—then see how close you were.
All 2016 data is provisional. Deaths from car accidents include all deaths caused by motor vehicle accidents according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Because the human immunodeficiency virus was not classified as a cause of death until 1987, H.I.V. death totals before 1987 include all AIDS patient deaths, some of which may have been caused by accidents or diseases unrelated to H.I.V.; after 1987, totals include all H.I.V. deaths as defined by the N.C.H.S. Deaths from guns include homicides, suicides and accidental deaths from firearms, in addition to firearm deaths of undetermined intent. It excludes firearm deaths caused by legal intervention. Deaths from drug overdoses excludes deaths caused by substance use disorder or withdrawal, which accounted for an additional 2,573 deaths in 2015. Definitions for causes of death can change slightly with each revision of the International Classification of Diseases. Where applicable, deaths counted under earlier editions of the I.C.D. are adjusted to correct for this.
